The best way to advance your homebrewing skills (other than practice of course) is to talk about brewing with other home brewers. Here's a short list of the sites I use when doing research for a new brew, or when I have a question.
It also helps to know where your closest homebrew shop is just incase you have run out of an important ingredient. Mine is Malthouse home brew supplies only about 5 minutes away from where I live in Western Australia.

We're lucky here in the Bay Area. My favorite (Oak Barrel in Berkeley, CA) isn't open on Sunday, but MoreBeer in Concord, CA is open, and so is San Francisco Brewcraft. Both are a relatively short drive away.
